Hemimorphite is primarily sourced from Mexico, China, Namibia, USA (especially Arizona), and Belgium. Bright blue botryoidal specimens from Mexico and China are the most sought-after in crystal healing circles.
Formation:
Hemimorphite forms in the oxidised zones of zinc deposits, where it often appears in association with minerals like Smithsonite, Galena, and Calcite. It occurs as botryoidal (grape-like) masses, druzy crusts, or flat crystal blades — and gets its name from its “hemimorphic” crystal structure, meaning it has different terminations at each end of a single crystal.
Interesting Fact:
Hemimorphite was once grouped together with Smithsonite under the name “Calamine” until mineralogists realised they were entirely different minerals. Today, both are prized by collectors and energy workers for their beauty and metaphysical resonance.
