Understanding Selenite: The Crystal of Divine Light - Krystallized

Selenite – Geological Origins & Metaphysical Meaning

Geological Profile

Mineral Group: Gypsum
Chemical Formula: CaSO₄·2H₂O (Calcium Sulfate Dihydrate)
Crystal System: Monoclinic
Hardness: 2 (Mohs Scale)
Transparency: Transparent to translucent
Colour: Typically white, clear, or pearly; may show striations or a fibrous shimmer

Common Sources:
Selenite is found in Mexico, Morocco, USA, Greece, and Australia. The Moroccan desert produces large quantities of polished wands and plates, while crystal-clear specimens come from Naica, Mexico.

Formation:
Selenite forms through the evaporation of mineral-rich water in sedimentary basins. It is a soft, water-soluble mineral — so it should never be submerged. Its name comes from Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon, reflecting its luminous glow.

Important Note:
What is commonly called “Selenite” in stores is often Satin Spar, a fibrous variety of Gypsum with a silky, striated texture. True Selenite is clear and pane-like. Both share the same chemical composition and metaphysical properties.

Disclaimer

Crystals are a natural form from the earth. The item you receive may be different from the exact image you see. Crystals have their own imperfections, shapes and colours and no two are identical. All crystal properties are metaphysical in nature and they can be used alongside but not replace medical advice.
