Geological Profile
Mineral Group: Quartz
Chemical Formula: SiO₂ (Silicon Dioxide)
Crystal System: Trigonal
Hardness: 7 (Mohs Scale)
Transparency: Translucent to opaque
Colour: Soft dusty pink to mauve; may include banding, druzy crystal formations, or subtle veining
Common Sources:
Pink Amethyst is found almost exclusively in Patagonia, Argentina, where it forms in large geodes and vein deposits. This region remains the primary global source for natural Pink Amethyst.
Formation:
Pink Amethyst forms in much the same way as purple Amethyst, but the presence of hematite and iron oxide during crystal growth gives it its soft pink colour. It typically occurs in geodes or cavity formations, sometimes alongside white Quartz or druzy inclusions.
Interesting Fact:
Unlike Rose Quartz, which owes its colour to titanium or manganese inclusions, Pink Amethyst is coloured by hematite and forms in crystalline structures. It is often mistaken for dyed Amethyst or pink Quartz, but its origin and composition are completely natural.
