Common Sources:
Tiger’s Eye is most commonly found in South Africa, Australia, India, Namibia, and the USA. South Africa produces some of the finest material with strong golden shimmer.
Formation:
Tiger’s Eye forms when crocidolite (a fibrous blue asbestos) is replaced by silica, creating a quartz-based stone with fibrous inclusions that reflect light. This creates the signature chatoyancy — a silky, shimmering band that appears to move across the surface as the stone is turned.
Interesting Fact:
Tiger’s Eye was once carried as a talisman against curses and the "evil eye." The shifting bands of light were thought to ward off ill intent and enhance awareness.
