Unveiling the Tiger's Eye: A Comprehensive Guide to the Crystal of Resilience, Clarity, and Inner Strength - Krystallized

Tiger’s Eye – Geological Origins & Metaphysical Meaning

Geological Profile

Mineral Group: Quartz
Chemical Formula: SiO₂ (Silicon Dioxide)
Crystal System: Trigonal
Hardness: 6.5 – 7 (Mohs Scale)
Transparency: Opaque
Colour: Golden brown with silky chatoyancy; also found in blue (Hawk’s Eye) and red (heated or naturally altered)

Common Sources:
Tiger’s Eye is most commonly found in South Africa, Australia, India, Namibia, and the USA. South Africa produces some of the finest material with strong golden shimmer.

Formation:
Tiger’s Eye forms when crocidolite (a fibrous blue asbestos) is replaced by silica, creating a quartz-based stone with fibrous inclusions that reflect light. This creates the signature chatoyancy — a silky, shimmering band that appears to move across the surface as the stone is turned.

Interesting Fact:
Tiger’s Eye was once carried as a talisman against curses and the "evil eye." The shifting bands of light were thought to ward off ill intent and enhance awareness.
