Common Sources:
Grape Agate is primarily found in Indonesia, specifically in the Mamuju area of Sulawesi. It is a relatively recent addition to the crystal world, having gained popularity in the last decade.
Formation:
Grape Agate forms as botryoidal chalcedony, meaning it develops in smooth, rounded spheres that cluster together like bunches of grapes. These formations occur through slow silica deposition in voids within volcanic rock.
Interesting Fact:
Despite the name “agate,” Grape Agate doesn’t display traditional agate banding. The term is used commercially due to its microcrystalline nature and connection to the chalcedony family.
