Chemical Formula: SiO₂ (Silicon Dioxide)
Crystal System: Trigonal (Microcrystalline)

Common Sources:
Bloodstone is most commonly found in India, with other deposits in Brazil, Australia, China, Germany, and the United States.

Formation:
Bloodstone forms as a variety of Chalcedony, often in hydrothermal veins or as nodules in sedimentary rock. The green base is due to chlorite or hornblende inclusions, while the red "blood" spots come from iron oxide (hematite) or jasper inclusions.

Interesting Fact:
In ancient times, Bloodstone was believed to have mystical properties and was used in seals, amulets, and carvings. The name “heliotrope” means “sun-turner” in Greek, reflecting the belief that it could influence the sun or offer protection during eclipses.
